SUMMARY:2024 cultural class-zentangle drawing
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis semester\, a new cultural course on Zentangle art was introduced. Most students had never encountered this form of artistic creation before. However\, after just five lessons\, they showed remarkable progress and embraced the techniques with enthusiasm. The students not only developed their skills but also discovered the calming and meditative qualities of Zentangle. Many found the process of creating intricate designs to be peaceful and rewarding. By the end of the course\, they experienced a great sense of accomplishment and thoroughly enjoyed the unique art form. The course quickly became a favorite\, with many expressing a desire for more lessons in the future. \n

SUMMARY:2024 Cultural Class- Mahjong and paper cutting
DESCRIPTION:  \nOn May 5th\, before the end of the semester\, students participated in a cultural class that featured Chinese paper cutting(剪紙）and learning how to play traditional Chinese Mahjong (麻將). They practiced using the correct terms\, such as “chī” (eat) 吃\, “pèng” (pong) 碰\, “gàng” (kong) 槓\, “draw one” 拿一張\, “my turn” 該我了\, “discard” 出牌\, and “I won!” 我胡了 as they played. While engaging in these activities\, students also enjoyed tea and desserts\, making it a fun and immersive experience in Chinese culture. \n

SUMMARY:2024 Cultural Class-Taiwanese Snacks
DESCRIPTION:  \nIn this week’s TCML cultural class\, students were introduced to popular Taiwanese snacks: wheel cakes（車輪餅）\, salted crispy chicken（鹹酥雞）\, and pickled cabbage（泡菜）. The class also included a brief introduction to traditional Chinese paper cutting（剪紙）.  \nEveryone had a great time making and enjoying the snacks right in the classroom\, immersing themselves in the “food” culture of Taiwan. It was a fun and delicious hands-on experience!

DESCRIPTION:2024 Lantern Festival \nThe Lantern Festival (元宵節) is on the first full moon (15th day) of the Lunar calendar and it marks the end of the traditional 14-day Chinese Lunar New Year holiday (春節) celebration. TCML and Atlanta Chinese School celebrated the 2024 lantern festival on 2/24. In addition to the riddles (燈謎)\, dragon lanterns\, and sky lanterns (天燈) with wishing cards\, there were lots of prizes and yummy traditional festival food including the colorful sweet rice balls (湯圓 or 元宵). \n  \n    \n  \n

The class started with the types\, brewing techniques\, and cultural significance of Chinese tea. Students had the opportunity to smell and taste a variety of teas\, learn about their unique flavors and aromas. The class also highlighted the importance of tea etiquette and introduced the traditional Chinese tea ceremony. Overall\, the Chinese Tea Cultural Class provided a delightful and educational experience\, allowing students to deepen their understanding and appreciation of Chinese tea culture.

SUMMARY:2023 Calligraphy Workshop and Class
DESCRIPTION:Calligraphy Workshop and Class\n文化課：書法講座和文化課 \nDr. Lee Jan\, a retired Sociology professor\, also a known Chinese calligraphy master in Atlanta gave TCMLATL a calligraphy workshop on March 25\, 2023. Dr. Jan went over the different styles and purposes of Chinese calligraphy\, and showed how they evolved in Chinese history. Audience had an opportunity to feel the different types of brushes and learn their effects on brushstrokes. \nTCMLATL also held a calligraphy cultural class in April\, 2023. The teacher first introduced the calligraphy art forms\, students followed and practiced brushstrokes\, exploring the artistic expression of Chinese characters. The class fostered a creative environment\, allowing students to engage with Chinese calligraphy and appreciate the discipline required in mastering this traditional art.
